Interim boss Southgate was at Turf Moor to see Burnley beat Crystal Palace 3-2 on Saturday, and watch Heaton and Keane in person, with Sean Dyche admitting after the game: "I'd be surprised if he didn't think Keano did well today, that's for sure, and Heats as well. Both centre halves were excellent again."

England host Scotland at Wembley on Friday in a World Cup qualifier, before entertaining Spain in a friendly the following Tuesday.

Heaton, in the form of his life, will look to add to his solitary cap for his country, while for Keane, a late replacement for Stoke City's Glen Johnson in the last squad for the games with Malta and Slovenia, it is the first time he has been named in a full squad initially.

Keane said yesterday: "It would be a dream come true. It was special last time, it was my best feeling in football when I got the call-up, but to be in the initial squad would be even better and I feel like I’d have deserved it even more."
