Clitheroe athlete Charlotte Williams has started the new season with a bang, climbing to number one in the British Under 17 hammer rankings.
Still only 15, the St Augustine’s pupil is in her first year at a new age group, but is really showing her potential.
She traveled to Blackpool for her first competition a week ago, for the Blackpool Winter Warm Up, and threw a new personal best of 57.84m to win the competition.
Charlie then traveled to Loughborough on Sunday to compete in the Alan Bertram Spring Memorial Open Under 18 event, and again won gold, in another massive PB of 60.53m, up against a quality, older, field, in front of the watching Olympic bronze medalist Sophie Hitchon of Burnley.
That earned her the performance of the day award, and also was the fifth best throw ever by an Under 17 girl – and so soon into her season.
That saw her gain the British number one spot, as she tops the UK rankings.
Charlie, coached by Mick Hitchon, father of Sophie, trains religiously six days a week and is determined to get to the very top.
She said: “I am so pleased with the start of my season.
“It makes all worth while training in all weather conditions when I get the results.
“I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Charlotte will travel to Birmingham International Stadium to throw for Birchfield Harriers next, then to the Northern Championships.
