Burnley striker Wood could feature at Aberdeen

Wood wasn’t involved as the Clarets won 3-2 at Deepdale in their last pre-season game before Thursday night’s Europa League second qualifying round first leg.

But he could still be available to feature at Pittodrie, as Dyche explained: “Woody’s got a chance. It was just a precaution tonight, he got a slight feel in his hip, so it’s purely a precaution.”

Ashley Barnes and Robbie Brady also have a chance, but Steven Defour won’t make it: “Barnesy has an outside chance, he is doing okay, we’re jus being careful with him.

“Robbie Brady is doing well - we deliberately took him out of this game, no injury, just to get his map right in his build up.

“If you’ve been out a long time, if it was a normal pre-season, you’d have a bit of a game, week’s training, but this is too quick, so we took him out to timeline it properly.

“We’d have to be careful with him, the longer view is more important, not one game.

“Steven won’t be ready, he isn’t on the grass yet, but it’s nothing serious, it’s settling down.”

Goals from Aaron Lennon, Dan Agyei and Dwight McNeil earned victory at Preston, and Dyche was pleased with the run out: “It went well in general, we’re still missing some bodies, we’ve had to be careful with a couple and a couple not quite ready yet, and you saw that, obviously with the changes, with the young lads playing second half, and they played well and applied themselves well.

“Dwight got a good goal, Dan Agyei got a good goal, so it was good for them to get a chance.

“We were hoping to get more first team players out there, but we have to be careful, not just for Aberdeen, three weeks yesterday is our first Premier League game.

“We’ve got to have a collective view, but obviously Aberdeen is our first competitive game.

“You’ve got to find the right balance, we’re trying to get minutes into the players, at the appropriate time, which is difficult because this stage would normally be their first 75 minutes, and we’ve managed to get two 90 minutes into most of them already.

“55 tonight, by design, mostly as a sharpener, but I was pleased with the first half, it could have been more comfortable, we created enough, so overall we’re pleased.”

Burnley will go to Pittodrie with no new faces available, but Dyche added: “We’ve just got to be careful, it’s pre season and we can’t put everything on the first game, we have to make sure we have players fit for not just this game, but the rest of the season.

“We’re working in the market, it’s difficult as you know, I’ll not go down that road, it will be boring for all of you, but it’s Burnley World, and in Burnley World it’s difficult to get players in, we know that.”
