Burnley skipper Ben Mee a "top professional" - boss Sean Dyche

Mee - the second-longest serving player at the club after Kevin Long, joined Burnley, initially on loan, from Manchester City in the summer of 2011, signed by Eddie Howe.

Dyche replaced Howe in October 2012, and Mee served as left back primarily, until being shifted inside to his more natural centre back berth at the start of the Clarets' 23-game unbeaten run, which led to the Championship title success in 2016.

He has remained a virtual ever-present since, and has been unlucky not to receive senior England recognition - with partners Michael Keane and James Tarkowski both capped after playing alongside him.

Mee stepped in as skipper when Tom Heaton dislocated his shoulder in September 2017, and wore the armband until Heaton was restored to the side midway through last season.

But after Heaton was sold to Aston Villa in the summer, he took up the captaincy full time.

After his goal proved the winner at Crystal Palace on Monday night - on his 300th league appearance for the club - Dyche said: "He's matured no end in my seven and a half years.

"He was here before me, but on and off the pitch he's a great captain.

"He's a very sound fella, good principles, and he's a top professional too.

"He's a leader by the way he goes about it - he's not a big shouter or screamer, he goes about it in the right manner and he's grown in authority with the way he plays, and he was terrific againat on Monday night."
