The 21-year-old England Under 21 international has been told he will be allowed to leave the Stadium of Light on loan, and Dyche is eager to add him to his pool of strikers, with Danny Ings and Sam Vokes his only senior options at present.

With the loan window set to close on November 28th, Dyche would be unable to bring anyone in after that date until January 1st, and with the key Festive period in mind, Dyche needs more depth to his squad to help maintain Burnley’s remarkable start to the season.

A number of Championship clubs are chasing Wickham’s signature, but if Burnley can convince Sunderland it will be worth their while lending them the former Ipswich striker, in terms of game time, a deal could be done in time for Saturday’s trip to Millwall.
