Burnley FC pair kick off work on college’s new sports facilities

A couple of Clarets stars were on hand at a sod cutting ceremony in Nelson to mark the start of improvements works at Pendle’s premier college.

Burnley FC players Michael Duff and Alex Cisak joined Nelson and Colne College Principal Amanda Melton, academy footballers and a rugby player to mark the start of construction of the new facilities.

The project will see a range of improvements to the campus including a full sized flood lit 4G sports pitch constructed from the latest artificial sports surface materials.

Using Dutch company Edel, who have provided pitches at sports and educational establishments including Wimbledon, the University of Edinburgh and Eton College, the installion will see the new pitch used for football and rugby as well as construction of a multi-use games area for sports such as tennis, basketball and netball.

The college’s impressive sports facilities, which includes a six-court sports hall with sprung floor and a modern gym, is due to undergo significant expansion and changing room improvements.
