New Clitheroe boss Simon Haworth is facing something of a rebuild at Shawbridge after seeing a series of key men leave the club.

All but one of the four players to be confirmed as departing are set to ply their trade at a higher level come the new season in August.

Evo-Stik First Division North Young Player of the Season Scott Harries became the latest player to depart this week having joined champions Warrington.

The in-demand winger follows Sefton Gonzales, who has signed for Chorley, and Altrincham-bound captain David Lynch, out of the door with the pair set to test themselves in the National League North.

Goalkeeper Ben Woodhead has also agreed terms with Colne as a summer of change that started with the departure of popular manager Simon Garner continues.

Haworth’s first signing has seen him immediately fill the vacancy between the sticks with stopper Chris Thompson arriving from Evo-Stik First Division North rivals Kendal Town.

The new boss is also hoping to have another four or five players confirmed in July.

• Clitheroe will host League 2 Morecambe in a pre-season friendly at Shawbridge on Wednesday, July 27, kick-off 7.30pm.

It is likely to be a youthful Shrimps side with Jim Bentley’s outfit hosting Preston North End at the Globe Arena 24 hours earlier.
