Skipper O’Connor concedes that season is all but over for Read
The captain fired an unbeaten 57 in the triumph at Preston Old Road as Read sailed past their opponent’s tally of 134 with just four wickets down.
However, they’re still 36 points behind leaders Clitheroe.
“We’ve accepted that it’s going to be one of those years now,” he said. “It’s another trophyless season but it’s a chance to build towards next season now. We’re extremely disappointed not to be picking up any silverware but we’ve got to focus on finishing in the top four now. We want a strong finish to the campaign.”

And that result capped off a torrid weekend as Baxenden were the beneficiaries of a seven-wicket victory at Back Lane in the league.
Asif Iqbal struck a century for the hosts as Padiham’s 163 total proved insufficient. They remain bottom of the pile.
