Salesbury get off the mark in group stage
Salesbury got off the mark in Group One of the Ramsbottom Cup competition with a 29-run win against old rivals Brinscall at School Lane on Saturday.
A four-pronged bowling attack from the visitors helped to defend their 146-6 finish, which saw professional Hashen Ramanayake top score with 39.
The Sri Lankan batsman set the wheels in motion again after a stuttering start, putting on 68 runs for the fourth wicket with Peter Richardson, who signed off with a knock of 26 shortly after.
Siblings Sam and Josh Bristol then combined with a partnership worth 45, with the former bettering his brother by a single run when making 25.
However, it was Josh who edged the bowling figures in Brinscall’s reply as he took 3-22 from eight overs, while Sam chipped in with a couple of wickets at the expense of 23 runs.
Paid man Ramanayake continued his positive contribution as he returned figures of 2-15, while Liam Parkinson, who had made 16 with the bat when opening proceedings for the Red Caps, rounded things off with 2-24
