Harvey inspires Read to double

READ skipper Chris Holt was full of praise for professional Jon Harvey after the Whalley Road side continued their 100% record over double-header weekend.

The right-hand batsman and right arm medium pace bowler was in inspired form as he claimed all eight wickets against Edenfield on Sunday.

Holt said: “Jon bowled really well and his performances fill everybody with confidence. He’s a real winner and his attitude rubs off on everybody else. His attitude towards cricket alone will win us a majority of our games. Jon gives 100% every game and is always there to help us out.”

Oliver Newby top-scored for Read on the afternoon after smashing seven fours and three sixes on his way to 62. Joe Marshall (43) and Michael Whalley (42 not out) also batted well to drive their side into joint second place in the Holdsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale Cricket League.

Meanwhile, at the Applegarth on Saturday, Read stormed to a seven-wicket victory over Earby. Aron Pollard’s 82 for the hosts looked like providing the platform for Earby to hit a decent total but four wickets for captain Holt and one a-piece for Newby and Warren Eastham limited them to 160.

In reply, Read surrendered just three wickets as they surpassed their target with ease. Newby once again top-scored for the visitors as he claimed his 126th run of the weekend while Ben Law and Joe Marshall hit 38 and 45.

Holt added: “It was a quality weekend for us. Everybody seems happy with the way we are performing and we’ll look to continue that. People are starting to notice us so we just need to keep going with that winning mentality.

Read travel to face Cherry Tree on Saturday.
