CRICKET fans from all over the county celebrated Lancashire’s first outright Championship win for 77 years in a glittering occasion at The Grand, Clitheroe.

The dinner, in aid of Mark Chilton’s testimonial year, saw Chilton, Gary Keedy and Tom Smith, who all featured in Lancashire’s Championship-winning squad, team up with Red Rose legends Jack Simmons and Ian Austin for a special question and answer session.

“It was a fantastic night and I want to thank all the Lancashire fans who came to the Grand and made it a night to remember,” said Chilton.

Lancashire officials gave special permission for the County Championship to be loaned out to the theatre for one night only – and The Grand venue’s commercial manager Matt Evans said: “We would like to thank Thwaites Brewery for all their help and for Houldsworth Solicitors in sponsoring the menu.

“We had people attend the dinner from Manchester, Preston and Blackburn – there was even one from Yorkshire keen to celebrate Lancashire’s success!”
