CLITHEROE Cobras returned from a hugely successful tour of Yorkshire with many new friends made and lots of memories to take into the remainder of the season.

The four teams from Chatburn Road played a total of 17 games beginning at Skipton, heading up to Harrogate and Pannal, followed by fixtures at Dunnington, Acomb, Heworth, Cullingworth and Oakworth across the three days with the Under 13s remaining undefeated in their five fixtures.

The U11A team spoilt their 100% record by losing a close final game at Skipton, while the Cobras Girls side suffered their only defeat in their final fixture at Cullingworth, which coach Bill Smith attributed to late nights and the excitement of a chance meeting with England player Sarah Taylor who was playing at Harrogate for Sussex v Yorkshire.

Cobras chairman Farouk Hussain said: “It’s been a wonderful three days with great social interaction and some excellent cricket played by all teams. It was the first time we have taken a girls team on tour and they acquitted themselves brilliantly against all boy opposition – losing only one match.

“It just shows that our girls are making tremendous progress. Meeting an England player and watching the ladies’ county fixture will give our girls the extra motivation to reach those standards.”
