Clitheroe Cobras continued the club’s remarkable run of silverware with a comfortable victory over Read in the Ribblesdale League’s Under 15 Play-Off Final.

Tight bowling from the Cobras enabled Read to limp to 74 off their 20 overs, with only Keiron Grimshaw( 30 retired) managing to assert any authority with the bat.

A brace of wickets for Harry Lang and a quickfire burst of three late order wickets for Assad Mehmood, backed up by the miserly figures of four overs for two runs from Omar Hussain kept the Read batsmen in check.

The Cobras’ opening pair dominated from the start and raced to 30 off the first six overs. When both departed in quick sucsession (Charlie Dewhurst 20), it brought Sam Jackson and Dom Stuart to the crease, and they maintained the healthy scoring rate as Jackson played a classy knock as he raced to 26 and eased the visitors over the finishing line.

Cobras manager Stan Fitzgerald was delighted with the way his players had responded: “The boys put in a top class performance and I couldn’t have asked more. They executed their skills brilliantly and outplayed Read comfortably on this occasion. They have worked hard all season to reach this final outcome.”
