Burnley suffer controversial defeat after disputed penalty

Burnley RUFC went down in controversial fashion to an 8-7 loss at Manchester side Aldwinians last Saturday.

Alex Woodcock scored Burnley’s try with Sam Mounsey kicking the conversion in an excellent performance.

A late penalty to win the game was disallowed, after a dispute over whether the ball went through the uprights.

The seconds won 11-10 at Trafford, while the thirds finished level with Preston 25-25 in an entertaining encounter.

The ladies carried on their great start to the season with a 32-20 victory over Leigh with tries from Steph Young, Hannah Worthington, Kathryn Clarkson and a hat-trick from Emily Rodgers.Mel Charldwood was outstanding at scrum half.

Today, the first and second teams are home to Tarleton and Tyldesley, and the thirds are at Blackpool.

On Sunday, the Under 7/8/9/10/11/12s are training, and the Under 13/14/15s host Aldwinians, Fleetwood and Vale of Lune. Also on Sunday, a St Theodores Old Boys side take on the Vintage Clarets at 2 p.m. in memory of Mick Ennis.
