But now Kim, from Clitheroe, is pulling on her trainers to show her support for the Wilpshire-based charity by taking on the Great Manchester Run in May.

It’s the first time the 34-year-old has taken part in a 10k run and Kim says she’s hoping all the experience she has running around after the children she cares for will help.

“I’ve never really run before,” admits Kim, “except when I’m chasing the children around the house, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

“I know the Great Manchester Run is only a few weeks away, so I’m trying to do at least half an hour every night and I’ve joined a ‘couch to 5k’ group in Clitheroe, so I’m hoping that will get me up to speed pretty quickly.”

Kim, who signed up to take part in the race with the encouragement of her family and staff at CANW says she wanted to do the run to help raise funds for the many services CANW provides.

“I’ve fostered with CANW for four years, and working with the charity and talking to other carers I’ve seen the difference foster care can make to children’s lives.

“But foster care is only part of what CANW does. They help children and families right across the North West, from young carers and families who are going through separation to young people who experience depression and anxiety.

“I love being a foster carer and CANW have given me so much support over the years that I wanted to give something back. It would be great to know the money I’m raising will go to help make someone happy.”
