LETTER: Burnley Council will maintain Towneley new parkland

I AM writing in response to Coun. Mark Townend’s recent letter and his comments regarding me accepting, on behalf of Burnley Council, the new parkland area created on the former site of the old Unity College in Towneley Park.

As part of the agreement with Lancashire County Council, it was agreed that once the county council had converted the site to parkland, Burnley Council would take on the maintenance of the site, as we currently maintain the rest of the park.

As Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, I am responsible for maintenance of all the council’s green spaces, and therefore it is totally appropriate I accept the site on behalf of Burnley Council, or is Coun. Townend saying the site should not be maintained?
