I read the Green Party’s election policies with dismay.
They are calling for cannabis to be legalised.
During my time working in mental health, I worked with many families whose son or daughter was suffering from psychosis brought on by using cannabis.
The effects of this, not only to the user of the cannabis but also to the family, was devastating.
In most cases, this was not just a short-term problem but a lifetime of mental health problems as the mind changing effects of the newer strains of cannabis are often permanent.
I would urge the Green Party to take a long hard look at this part of their manifesto and to take advice from people who have first hand knowledge of dealing with the terrible after effects of this drug.
