In response to John R Kendall’s letter in your paper last week, I’m writing to clarify the success of our garden waste subscription scheme and our intentions for green bins no longer wanted.
We have exceeded our target of 8,000 subscriptions and raised over £200,000 income. Additionally, people are contacting us every day to subscribe to the service even now and we expect this to continue.
Those people who have chosen other ways of disposing of their garden waste have the choice of keeping their green bins or arranging for them to be collected for free from mid November. We will let people know how to arrange their collections via the local press and radio, plus our website and social media channels.
Garden waste bins returned to us will be cleaned and kept for re-use by new subscribers joining the scheme. Unusable bins will be sent for granulating then made into new wheeled bins.
