I would like to send a very big thank you and congratulations to all the members of Burnley Alliance Silver Band who played at Towneley Park to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

Their playing helped to create a time to contemplate and reflect on the great debt we all owe to the brave men and women who gave their lives so that future generations can live in this country today.

As they played “Abide With Me”, people watching the big screen by the side of the hall began to sing as the music helped all those there to unite.

I wish your contribution to the evening had been acknowledged in the programmes given out on the night and hope this letter will go, in some small way, to let you know how much your efforts were appreciated on the night.

Once again, well done and keep up the excellent work.
