Warmer weather on its way for June

After last year's wash-out summer, weather forecaster at the Met Office are predicting a warm and dry June for the North West.

While some in the national media are anticipating a heatwave, with blistering temperatures and wall-to-wall sunshine until autumn, the Met Office this week has issued a more muted forecast.

National forecasters believe showers this week - with the exception of Tuesday - could give way to heavier downpours on Friday as we all prepare for the Bank Holiday weekend, although temperatures will remain about 16°C.

The outlook for the weekend is generally dry with more in the way of sunshine, with settled weather coming in for Bank Holiday Monday and remaining for the first half of June at least. Temperatures are expected to start on the cool side but trend upwards.

Met Office forecasaters said: “Currently it looks likely that generally settled conditions will continue through the first half of June, as high pressure remains close to the UK. This should bring reasonable dry and sunny weather for most, particularly in the North West, while some showery outbreaks are still possible in some parts.

“High pressure may break down later in the period, bringing some more unsettled conditions, with rain or showers and perhaps some stronger winds. “Temperatures are favoured to be just above average for most areas, especially in the south and west.”
