One of the stars of the National Theatre’s production of WarHorse brings his solo folk music to Lancashire’s rural venues this spring.
Bob Fox, who played the Songman for over three years in the hit stage show, will bring “Evening with the WarHorse Songman” to Grindleton next month.
Bob is a well established performer in his own right, described as one of the finest exponents of storytelling through song.
He played the role of Songman in The National Theatre’s multi-award winning West End production of WarHorse (2011-2013) and subsequently in the highly acclaimed and record breaking UK, Ireland and South Africa touring version which ended in February 2015.
Since then,he has returned to the concert platform with his “Evening with the WarHorse Songman” show and “The Pitmen Poets” project as well as doing solo performances throughout Britain and abroad.
These rural shows are the perfect chance to experience Bob’s warm, rich voice, virtuoso guitar style and newly acquired melodeon playing skill. The show features full versions of the songs from WarHorse, linked with snippets of the story with additional material from the newly written BBC Radio Ballads along with old favourites from his many recordings.
Speaking ahead of the Lancashire shows, Bob said: “Now that WarHorse has closed in London and the national touring production has ended, I’m delighted that Spot On Lancashire has given me the opportunity to bring the songs from the play and some insight into the story to audiences that maybe didn’t get to see it.
“If you were lucky enough to have experienced WarHorse either in the West End or in one of the many UK venues that we played in, then hopefully my show will bring back fond memories.”
The Lancashire dates form part of Spot On Lancashire’s spring season of touring, taking professional arts events to rural venues and libraries across the county.
