The first phase of the new Whalley Sports Community Park and Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) is nearing completion and will be officially opened this weekend.

Brian Cookson, the president of the UCI, the world governing body for cycling, will be on hand to perform the honours of declaring the facility open, in a ceremony which will take place on site on Sunday at 10-30 am.

On completion of the youth shelter, the aim is to finish the MUGA so that the village’s junior teams can use the facility for winter training and also so that amenities can be hired out to provide an ongoing income stream for the whole site. There is an open invitation for anyone who would like to attend the opening ceremony.
