Valley Guides take on the tower for super Swiss trip!
Climbing to Darwen Tower in the sunshine was the intention of a group from Girlguiding Ribble Valley.
21 Guides, Brownies and young leaders (some with their dogs) navigated and walked their course, checking in to four points along the way for suitably cold refreshments and a stamp on their walk passports! The group are preparing for an amazing trip to Switzerland in February. Although this was primarily a team building and walk preparing event, the girls could also be sponsored for it, and on this event alone have raised over £600.
Eleven-year-old Katie, said: “It was so much fun – it’s so sunny, but it was windy at the top! I’ve had a great time and I’m making new friends – the rest of my team haven’t even heard of
my school, but we had a great time on the walk together."
A spokesman said: "In total, 35 girls and young women will be travelling to Switzerland with seven leaders and the group are working hard to fundraise around half the cost per person, giving the girls responsibility for making the trip happen and also meaning that more families can afford for their daughters to go on it. Igloo building, cross country skiing and tobogganing are all planned, along with a special visit to 'Our Chalet', one of Girlguiding’s five world guiding centres."
The group have so far raised over £10,000 of the £19,00 total they aim to fundraise, with a variety of activities, including selling badges, Christmas fairs and running a steam train
