Flanders Poppies will bloom in Langho this year thanks to the tremendous efforts of Langho and Billington Cubs ...25 of whom helped plant up to 2,500 poppy seeds.

Working together with Langho in Bloom, this project for the cubs sits alongside the national Scout movement who are planting a “ribbon of poppies” from one end of the UK to the other to act as a memorial to all those who gave their lives in the service of their country in the First World War.

A spokesman said: “Thanks to the generosity of those who donated compost, seed trays and poppy seeds, the cubs got their hands dirty and hopefully with a warm summer on its way, they’ll be rewarded with an abundance of poppies.

“The next stage of the project is for Langho in Bloom to nurture the seeds and once the seedlings are ready for planting, the cubs will transfer them to “old boots” as a tribute to the young men who bravely fought in the First World War.”
