Fire crews tackled a large blaze at a charity shop in Clitheroe yesterday.
A fire broke out at the Age UK Lancashire shop in Moor Lane at 4-20 pm on Monday. Staff and customers were evacuated as smoke could be seen billowing from the rear of the shop.
On arrival, two teams of firefighters from Clitheroe, wearing breathing apparatus quickly managed to extinguish the fire which destroyed sheds in the back yard of the property.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “The nearby roads had to be closed for an hour as crews continued to investigate the cause of the fire and had to check adjacent shops for any heat damage. No one was injured in the fire.”
The charity shop remains closed today, but volunteers are urging Ribble Valley folk for donations.
A spokesman for Age UK Lancashire said: “Luckily, no one was hurt in the fire, but the smoke did damage some stock. We are working with Lancashire Fire and Rescue to determine the cause of the fire. In the meantime, the charity shop will remain closed on Tuesday, but we would appreciate any donations as a matter of urgency.”
