Twin brothers from a Ribble Valley school have both won medals in the finals of the National British Youth Fencing Championships.
Sixteen-year-old twins Simon and Magnus Whittle are both boarders at Stonyhurst College and competed in the National Youth Championships held at the English Institute of Sport, in Sheffield.
Simon won the Silver medal in the Boys’ 16-and-under Epee class while Magnus won Bronze in the Boys’ 16-and-under Sabre class. More than 600 young fencers from all over the country took part in the event, with the top 40 competing in each age group.
“I’m delighted to have won Silver,” said Simon. “Taking part in the finals was a tremendous experience.”
“It’s great when you’re 14-14 and you get the final point to win,” added Magnus.
