AN air ambulance took an elderly injured woman to hospital when a three-vehicle crash at Sawley closed the A59 for four hours on Sunday.

The 89-year-old passenger in a Ford Ka suffered broken bones when the car was in collision with a BMW driven by a 37-year-old Blackburn man who suffered bruising.

A 23-year-old tractor driver, whose vehicle was also hit, was unhurt. The road was closed between Sawley and Gisburn.
