Section of A59 will be fully closed at weekends to complete roundabout work
A section of the A59 will be fully closed for five weekends in February and March so that work can be carried out on a new roundabout at a notorious Ribble Valley road junction.
The section of the A59 from the Whalley Road roundabout to the turn off to Pimlico Link Road will be fully closed in order to complete the final task of surfacing the A59, Pendle Road and Clitheroe Road.
The road will be closed on Friday, February 8th, to Monday, February 11th; Friday, February 15th, to Monday, February 18th; Friday, February 22nd, to Monday, February 25th; Friday, March 1st, to Monday, March 4th, and Friday, March 8th, to Monday, March 11th.
Traffic will be diverted down Whalley Road and through the centre of Clitheroe and up Pimlico Link Road.
These works are weather-dependent and signs by the road giving advance warning of this work are due to go up soon.
The works on the new roundabout have already been delayed with the major improvements now taking a month longer than originally scheduled.
Work initially began in August to replace the staggered junction of the A59, Pendle Road, and Clitheroe Road, one of the main access points for Clitheroe, with a roundabout to improve safety and allow for higher levels of traffic.
The scheme is being funded by Taylor Wimpey as part of planning permission for its nearby housing site with access off Pendle Road, with Lancashire County Council having appointed Eric Wright Civil Engineering Ltd to carry out the construction.
The roundabout was due to be finished around the beginning of February, but delays during the construction mean it is now scheduled for completion in March.
