There is an air of expectation at the count at Roefield Leisure Centre in Clitheroe that incumbent Nigel Evans will be returned with a reduced, but still substantial majority.

Predictions are that Mr Evans could be returned with an 8 to 10,000 majority to which Independent candidate David Brass, standing on a “No more Nigel” ticket, said he was “absolutely amazed” at.

Most of the candidates are now present at the count apart from Mr Evans, who won the Ribble Valley seat in 2010 with more than 50% of the vote - 14,769 votes ahead of Labour.
