Top Royal honour for Lord Shuttleworth

Buckingham Palace has announced that Burnley’s Lord Shuttleworth is to be made a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter (KG).

A familiar and respected figure in Burnley and Padiham, Charles Kay-Shuttleworth, whose original family seat was Gawthorpe Hall, will take the Oath and be invested with the Garter Insignia by the Queen, as Sovereign of the Order, at the annual Garter Ceremony at Windsor Castle, on June 13th.

There can only be 24 Knight Companions at any one time and is one of the highest awards in the land. Lord Shuttleworth said: “What a lovely surprise this is. I know how much is due to all the people and organisations in Burnley and Lancashire who have given me so much help and support.”

The Ceremony will also attended by other members of the Royal Family, including the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal.

Lord Shuttleworth was appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire in January 1997 and has served as chairman of the Association of Lord-Lieutenants since 2008.

He was a member of the Council of the Duchy of Lancaster from 1998-2014 and served as chairman of the Council from January 2006 until December 2014.

On Sunday June 12th, Lord Shuttleworth, along with members of the Lancashire Lieutenancy, civic and council representatives and those in the county who have also been awarded an honour, will be attending a service in Blackburn Cathedral to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday.

Lord Shuttleworth was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in the 2011 New Year Honours, in addition to being a Knight of St John (KJStJ).
