Youngsters taking part in this year’s visit to Clitheroe from Belarus enjoyed an amazing day packed with activities at the PGL Activity Centre, Winmarleigh, thanks to the sponsorship of the Clitheroe Round Table.
They all had a great time and despite the rain took part in all the planned activities. In the morning they did quad biking and climbed the very high pole. Afternoon activities involved the high swing and zip wires. The children were fearless and really enjoyed the challenges.
Ribble Valley children are often able to enjoy these types of activity on school trips and so on, but the Chernobyl children would never get this opportunity at home in Belarus. The PGL activities challenged them physically, but also encouraged them to work as a team.
The Friends of Chernobyl’s Children, Clitheroe branch, are very grateful for the ongoing support of groups such as Clitheroe Round Table, without whom the visits would not be possible.
The Friends committee is already busy planning and fund-raising for the 2013 visit, starting with a Pudding Fest at St Mary’s Lower Hall from noon to 4 p.m. during the Clitheroe Food Festival on Saturday August 4th. Why not go along and enjoy a selection of delicious home made puddings!
