Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Mindsmatter service is encouraging residents in the Ribble Valley to get in touch if they are experiencing emotional difficulties this Mother’s Day.
Losing a parent is one of the most stressful and significant events that a person can experience and it is extremely common to struggle to manage feelings of grief. Certain holidays including Mother’s Day can be a painful reminder of the people we dearly miss and mean that we often find it difficult to cope.
Lancashire Care’s Mindsmatter service provides talking therapies for adults aged 16 and over who are experiencing common mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and stress. The teams offer a variety of different interventions and support including stress management courses, development courses, supported online programmes, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and counselling.
Phil Gooden, Mindsmatter Service Manager at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Mother’s Day can intensify the feelings of loss for a person and any day that holds memories with someone you miss can hurt for many years afterwards.
"We understand that for some people this day may feel like you are the only one in the world without a mother and that can be extremely difficult to deal with. The Mindsmatter service is here to support anyone who is feeling low, lonely or depressed this Mother’s Day.
"We know that losing a parent can be one of the most difficult things that can happen to a person and we want to reassure people that it is ok to not be ok.
“We are looking to encourage anyone who is struggling with their mental health to refer in to the service. Once we receive your referral you will receive a welcome call from a member of the team who discuss your needs and work with you to decide which of our therapy options would be most suitable.”
People can access the service via the online referral form from the comfort of their own home, by post, telephone or by visiting their GP. For more information about your local Mindsmatter service and to access their online self-referral form please visit www.lancashirecare.nhs.uk/Mindsmatter.
