A new event entitled a “Spring Happening” was enjoyed by Our Lady of the Valley parishioners and raised just short of £3,000 for the much needed redecoration of Clitheroe’s St Michael and St John’s RC Church.

Opened by 97-year-old Mrs Chris Carr, who was presented with a posey of flowers by Rebecca Collins, the day included many individual craft stalls, a human fruit machine, raffles, tombola and chocolate lotto.

Slaidburn Silver Band also performed and there was a large display by the Army Cadets on the field who were joined by cubs and beavers.

VIP cream teas, sandwiches, cakes and scones, all homemade by the ladies of Our Lady of The Valley were a sellout and served in the specially designed room for the day.

The auction of unique donated lots proved very popular, as did the secret garden, in which children’s activities included “bring a coloured in picture to the event and receive a prize”, slime making, a treasure hunt, wish flags for special messages, a children’s story time and bug hotel making in the willow arbour.

The home made ice cream was also very popular at this fun filled day for all the family.
