Adverse weather has once again forced more than 10 schools in the Ribble Valley to close today.

Ribblesdale High School and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School are closed in Clitheroe, as is St Augustine's RC High School at Billington and Bowland High School at Grindleton.

Bolton-by-Bowland, Chatburn and Grindleton primary schools are all closed as are St Leonard's and St Mary's at Langho, St Mary's at Mellor and St Leonard's at Balderstone.

Edisford Primary School in Clitheroe is also closed as are several nurseries.

A message on St Augustine's website reads: "We have had to close school due to the poor weather conditions and the treacherous conditions on the roads. We hope that Year 10 Parents' Evening will go ahead later today. More information to follow. Please continue to check for updates."

Meanwhile, motorists this morning are having to deal with congestion on the A59 following yesterday's accident during which an oil tanker collided with a van.

The road is closed between Worston Road and Pendle Road and is expected to remain so for the next couple of days.
