Two Ribble Valley runners have taken up the challenge of competing in the 2011 London Marathon to pledge their support for a worthy cause.
Jackie Crowther and Faith Lawton will take part in the world famous race, which takes place on the streets of the capital on Sunday, April 17th.
The duo have pledged to take part in the 26.2-mile challenge in a bid to raise much-needed funds in aid of the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association.
The charity is close to home having sadly claimed the life of Jackie’s father, Mr Graham Crowther, in 1994.
Mr Crowther was well known in Ribble Valley circles, having been a keen member of Clitheroe Golf Club and Ribblesdale Rotary Club for many years.
PSP is a neurodegenerative condition that affects movement, balance and vision.
Some of the symptoms are very similar to those of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease, which can often lead to misdiagnosis.
Together with seeking to raise awareness of this condition, Jackie and Faith have set a fund-raising target of £1,600 and ask for the support of Ribble Valley residents.
If you would like to make a donation, the ladies have set up a website to enable people to pledge their support www.uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/clitheroe.
