A total of 116 members and guests attended the February lunch of the Ribble Valley Macmillan Cancer Support “100 Club” held at Mitton Hall.

After lunch, the guest speaker was Maureen Baxter whose presentation was entitled: “From air hostess to the cockpit!” Now in her seventies, Maureen loved flying so much that 10 years as an air hostess was not enough to be forcibly grounded on. Hence she took lessons to get a private and then a commercial licence.

Initially piloting planes to Jersey, she subsequently graduated to long haul flights for many years and has memories of piloting numerous celebrities.

At the lunch, to start their new fund-raising year, following on from last year’s £50,000, the committee received numerous donations and bequests which together with the lunch proceeds totalled about £5,750. Among the donations received was £1,750 from the Captain and Lady Captain at Clitheroe Golf Club. A further £3,000 was raised from the committee’s highly successful “Tribute Night” at the Grand.

The committee would like to thank all the members, local businesses and residents for their generous support .
