It’s going to be a particular memorable wedding day for one Billington couple.
For Phil Barnes and Deborah Wilkes are tying the knot on Saturday May 19th, the same date as royal wedding couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Deborah explained: “We announced our wedding date on September 27th last year on social media through family and friends, only to hear later on that we would be sharing our special day with Prince Harry and Megan Markle.
“We are very happy and looking forward to the day as it will make our wedding day even more memorable!”
The couple, who grew up living close to each other in Burnley, but went their separate ways in later life, met up once again 10 years ago – 20 years since they had last seen each other – and as they say, the rest is history.
And Deborah (48), who went to Walshaw High School, Burnley, and Phil (46), who went to St Theodore’s RC High School, Burnley, now have six children to look after between them.
However, instead of the grand surroundings of Windsor Castle and the celebrity guest list which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will enjoy, Deborah and Phil are getting married at Bashall Barn near Clitheroe where their company Padsofas Upholstery Ltd supplied upholstery for the owner Simon Barnes.
The couple have worked on many commercial and domestic contracts in the Ribble Valley area alone including at Bashall Barn.
“We enjoyed doing the work and building up such good relationship that we felt it would be the perfect location to exchange our vows there surrounded by the beautiful Ribble Valley,” said Deborah.
Meanwhile, a VIP Royal Wedding Party is being held today at Kimberley Anne Bridal Boutique in Swan Courtyard.
Local cake maker Rose Dummer is making a cake dedicated to the royal wedding and this will be displayed in the boutique for the duration of the royal wedding celebrations.
The boutique’s window will also be decorated with floral displays courtesy of Sam Williams Flowers and there will also be “neon love” from the Brides Little Helper. Arthur Geldard will be performing in the courtyard and there will also be cake tasting and Champagne for guests.
A Meghan Markle model will also be in the boutique having her hair and make up done in the boutique’s prediction of Meghan style, while Kimberley Anne showcases the dress that she would hope to see Meghan wear on her big day.
Duo Nala and Knot will be in the boutique glamming up the model with a live demo on how to achieve that bridal Meghan look.
