Pupils were asked whether they were “in” or “out” during a mock EU referendum staged at Billington’s St Augustine’s RC High School.

The campaign teams were made up of pupils who had shown an interest in the referendum and campaigning teams produced posters, badges and promotional videos putting forward both sides of the argument.

A total of 436 votes were cast by pupils in Year Seven to 10 (Year 11 pupils have finished their exams) and there was a turnout of 52%. The Leave campaign received 190 votes (44%) while the Remain campaign received 246 votes (56%) and therefore pupils at St Augustine’s voted to remain in the EU.
