Prize night for Slaidburn Young Farmers

Young farmersSlaidburn Young Farmers began the new year with the annual presentation evening at the Spread Eagle Hotel, Sawley. Members enjoyed a meal followed by a speech from club chairman Thomas Harrison, who highlighted the events and achievements of the past year. President Mr Norman Schofield presented the club's trophies and the evening was rounded off with a disco.

Trophy winners were:

Hodder Valley Show Trophies: Robert Walker won P.F Trophy for the best pair of calves, Bibby Cup for the champion calf, William Robinson Trophy for champion sheep, Trophy for most points in the sheep section and Bolton Cup for best boy's handicraft item. Along with Chris Dodd he also won the Procters Farm Shield for Showmanship.

Liz Scott won the Bolton Cup for best girl's handicraft item. The J.A.R. Kaye Trophy for most points in the handicraft section was won by Naomi Sowerbutts.

Club trophies:

Fred Waddington Memorial Trophy for competitions night Thomas Harrison, Regional entry in the Junior Member-of-the-year Stephen Harrison. Regional entry in the Intermediate Member-of-the-year Anna Cowperthwaite, Regional entry in the Senior Member-of-the-year Liz Scott.

Junior Superjudge Rachel Harrison, Senior Superjudge Seth Blakey.

Waddington Cup for senior stockjudging Thomas Harrison with 416 points, reserve John France (398). King Wilkinson Cup for junior stockjudging Andrew Harrison 469 points, reserve Josh Thornber (426). Harrison Cup for senior craft competitions Anna Cowperthwaite 29 points, reserve Liz Scott (28). Starkie Cup for junior craft competitions Emma Parker 24 points, reserve Caitlin and Neve Dickinson (21).

Involvement in Regional and Country Rallies Trophy Katie Handley 47 points, reserve Naomi Sowerbutts (44). Starkie Cup for junior attendance Anna Blakey. Watson Cup for top junior boy Mick Handley. Townson Cup for top junior girl Anna Blakey.
