A new Hosted Outreach service is being proposed by the Post Office for Downham.

Ribble Valley Borough Councillor for Chatburn, Downham and Twiston Gary Scott said the service will operate from The Old Butcher’s shop on West Lane.

“Post Office services were withdrawn from the village in September 2013 when the postmaster resigned and the premises were withdrawn for Post Office use,” Coun. Scott explained. “I am glad to say that after a long process the Post Office are now in a position to restore a service to the local community.”

A local postmaster has been identified and will offer the service from The Old butcher’s shop. It opened Monday this week from 10-30 am to 12-30 pm and will be open every subsequent Monday at that time.

The Old Butcher’s shop was successfully reopened last year by Mr and Mrs Brown who live in Downham.

It sells drinks, confectionery and ice cream and has proved popular with locals and tourists.
