Action is being taken over mail being delivered incorrectly to residents who live in two Ribble Valley villages.
Coun. Lesley Graves, one of the borough councillors for Read and Simonstone, said: “When I became one of the councillors it soon became apparent that many of the residents within the wards had been experiencing postal problems. The post code of Simonstone and Read has been an issue for many years for the residents, and many people believe it is due to the confusion of the villages having a Burnley post code instead of a Ribble Valley post code like their neighbouring villages.”
She added: “I have spoken to residents that regularly get post for Burnley which has caused them so many problems. Simonstone and Read are in the Ribble Valley yet the post code does not reflect this.”
Coun. Graves, who lives at Sabden, has been in discussions with the Royal Mail. It is advising anyone who has a letter sent incorrectly to phone 03457 740 740. It will endeavour to sort out that particular problem and issue the complainant with a reference number. Coun. Graves would then appreciate these reference numbers forwarded to: firstname.lastname@example.org
“The Royal Mail have informed me that if there is a problem with the postal service and these issues of incorrectly posted letters can be logged and the problem is substantial, they would consider changing the post code to a Ribble Valley post code,” she added. Residents without access to a computer can call Coun. Graves on 01282 776559 and leave a message with their personal reference number which she will then log on their behalf.
