Police launch appeal to find victim of homophobic attack

Police are investigating after a man was subjected to a sickening attack on the X43 bus from Manchester to Burnley at the weekend.

A member of the public told police the victim was subjected to homophobic comments and had urine thrown at him on the bus in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police are now appealing for the victim or any witnesses who may have seen what happened to come forward.

The incident has prompted a strong response on social media with many people calling for the culprits to be found and punished.

A passenger who witnessed the incident said a group of males were taunting other people on the bus and she approached the driver three times requesting that he ask the culprits to leave.

A spokesman for The Burnley Bus Company said: “We are helping the police with their investigations into the incident which took place on one of our buses in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“We would like to reassure customers that under no circumstances do we tolerate attacks of this nature, and we will work with the police to ensure that the person or people responsible are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
