Police dog catches suspect after Burnley pub fight

A police dog chased down and caught a suspect following a fight in a Burnley pub.

Police were called to the Alma Inn, Accrington Road, following reports of a disturbance at around 10-55pm on Sunday of last week.

When patrols arrived on scene, they found a 40-year-old man with cuts and bruises to his face.

A few hours later, a suspect was spotted in Melrose Avenue by the police dog handling team.

A police spokesman said: “On seeing the dog patrol, the suspect made off 
and began garden hopping into neighbouring properties in an attempt to evade capture.

“The suspect refused 
to stop running so police 
dog Vinnie was deployed and gave chase. Vinnie scaled several fences and began barking in a back garden on Elgin Crescent.

“Moments later Vinnie was joined by his handler 
and the suspect was found hiding behind a fence 
panel within the garden.”

A 23-year-old man from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of Section 
18 greviousv bodily harm with intent.

He was later released without charge.
