Police appeal after teenage girl falls from motorbike on Whalley bypass

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old girl from Preston came off the back of a motorcycle on the A59 Whalley Bypass.

The incident occurred at around 12:45 yesterday afternoon (Thursday 21 July) when the girl, a passenger on the back of a green Kawasaki motorcycle travelling from Clitheroe to Preston, has somehow fallen off the vehicle and landed on the opposite side of the road.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with suspected broken bones, however it was found that her injuries were less serious than first thought.

Officers are still trying to piece together what could have caused the girl to come off the bike are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Claire Pearson from the Road Policing Unit said: “The girl was extremely lucky to have escaped from this with just cuts to her abdomen as it could have been much more serious.

“We need anyone who may have seen something to get in touch as they could have seen something that could assist with our investigation.”

The road was closed to facilitate an investigation but was reopened two hours later.
