Police are investigating the disappearance of 23 lambs which a Ribble Valley farmer believes have been stolen.

The 23 Texel cross lambs and Mule lambs, tagged with the number UK182599, are believed to have been stolen from secure land in the Sawley area.

PC Tony Walsh at Clitheroe Police said the lambs went missing during a period from the end of April to the first week of June.

“When the farmer has gone around checking his stock,” explained PC Walsh, “he then realised that the numbers were down.”

A thorough search for the lambs subsequently ensued, but proved fruitless, leaving the farmer to the only logical conclusion that the lambs must have been taken.

PC Walsh went on to stress the importance of people who live in rural communities reporting anything suspicious as soon as it happens therefore giving the police more chance to catch offenders.
