A Ribble Valley school has been awarded one of the highest honours for its Fairtrade policy.

Oakhill School and Nursery in Whalley has achieved FairAchiever Award Status.

The award was given to the school after it adopted a Fairtrade policy, created an action plan and showed that Fairtrade, a worldwide movement that supports farmers in poor countries, is embedded in the school.

Students had to show how Fairtrade products are used in school and an inspector asked to see lesson plans, resources and examples of students’ work.

Inspectors were also invited into the school kitchen which uses Fairtrade products along with student chaplains who run a Fairtrade Shop every Friday.
