A celebration party was attended by special guests to mark the 20th anniversary of the Phoenix Club at Henthorn Community Centre, Hazel Grove. Clitheroe.

A delicious buffet and a lovely celebratory cake were enjoyed by 50 members and guests.

The guests of honour were the Deputy Mayor of the Ribble Valley, Coun. Simon Hore, Mr Howel Jones, Coun. Beverley Jones and Mr Bert Jones.

Mr Howel Jones was Mayor at the time the building was opened and Mr Bert Jones, a councillor at that time, worked hard to get the plans approved.

The centre is used on a regular basis by people over 55 years of age for all kinds of activities and session are usually very well-attended. Regular games take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, together with exercise classes, card making, trips out, social evenings, bring-and-buy sales and a luncheon club, which meets fortnightly.

There are also head and shoulder massage and manicure days and demonstrations of various kinds. Barbecues are also held when the weather permits – in fact, it is a case of any excuse for a celebration for club members!
