Whilst walking her children Florence and George to Pendle Primary School, she was serenaded by firefighters from Clitheroe Fire who wanted to celebrate her 41st birthday as her 40th birthday celebrations were cancelled last year due to lockdown restrictions. Her sister, Lydia, organised the special surprise.

Lydia said: "Hannah's 40th was completely cancelled this time last year and we didn't have time to organise any socially-distanced celebrations, so I was delighted when Clitheroe Fire Station agreed to sing happy birthday to her on the way to the school drop off."

Speaking of her reaction, Lydia added: "She was really surprised - at first I think she thought it was just one foreman that she knew saying happy birthday and then all the other firefighters stepped forward and started singing - she was embarrassed, but laughing not crying! It was so lovely for the fire crews to get involved - the singing firemen certainly perked up her 41st birthday morning!

Hannah is thrilled as fire crews wish her happy birthday in style

Hannah is no stranger to staff at Clitheroe Fire. In fact, she lives next door to the station on Princess Avenue! And three years ago the family raised money for The Fire Fighters Charity after the Grenfell Tower fire disaster.

Acting Watch Manager for Clitheroe Fire, Glen Dinsdale, said: "We were contacted by Hannah’s sister, Lydia, to see if we could do a little 'socially distanced' something for Hannah as it was her 41st birthday and she had had to cancel all her 40th birthday plans a year earlier due to Covid-19.

"The Thornberrys are not only neighbours, but friends of the station and this was highlighted when Hannah’s son George raised money for Grenfell and we had a presentation at the station.”
