Thrill for Burnley fans as vintage Clarets pictured raising a glass together

It's an image that will create a buzz of excitement for any Burnley fan -  seeing five former players enjoying a pint together in the sun.

The five were snapped while enjoying a get together at the White Bull pub in Crawshawbooth.

The former players, Stan Ternent, Frank Casper, Paul Fletcher, Jim Thomson and Colin Waldron, are firm friends who have finally been able to grab a pint and a catch up as pubs were allowed to open up once again outdoors as the journey out of lockdown begins.

Stan, a midfielder who made five appearances for the Clarets, said: "It was great to see the lads again after a long time.

"We try to get together whenever we can."

It was as manager where Stan made his name, replacing Chris Waddle in 1998. He guided the Clarets to promotion in the 1999/2000 season, finishing second on the final day of the season after a 2-1 victory at Scunthorpe.

And out of 312 games in charge of the Clarets Stan led the team to victory in 122 of them.

Frank Casper was a forward who played over 250 games for Burnley scoring 89 goals and he was top scorer in each of his first two seasons at the club.

Frank helped the Clarets win promotion to Division One in the 72/73 season. He later became Burnley manager in 1989 guiding the Clarets to a play off finish in 1990/91 season, before leaving during the 1991/92 season.

Striker Paul Fletcher played over 300 games for the Clarets from 1971 to 1980, scoring 86 goals, including the 'Goal of the Decade' against Leeds United in a 4-1 at Elland Road.

His career was cut short by serious leg injury. He later became the Chief Executive of Burnley in 2008.

Colin Waldron made his Burnley debut in 1967. He quickly became a fixture at centre back and was named captain in his second season with the club.

Burnley won the Second Division in 1973 and were invited to play in the 1973 FA Charity Shield in which Waldron scored the winning goal against Manchester City. He ultimately played nine years and 308 games for Burnley

Defender Jim Thomson joined the Clarets in 1968 in a £40,000 transfer from Chelsea. Ever present in the side that won promotion in 1972/73... partnership at centre back with Waldron was crucial.

He later became commmercial manager in in 1986 and ended his career as player coach at Morecambe before becoming a brewery rep.
