Excitement is building at Roefield Leisure Centre, Clitheroe, as the results of the local election count are soon to be revealed.

A recount is currently under way in the Littlemoor Ward where the Lib Dem vote was under attack by Labour.

Conservative Ribble Valley Borough Council candidates are already celebrating their MP Nigel Evans’ retaining his seat last night.

Leader of the council, Stuart Hirst, said he is confident most of the Tory councillors will be re-elected. He added: “I am absolutely delighted Nigel Evans won last night. He has had a traumatic time with many personal and political difficulties but he has regained the confidence of the electorate in the Ribble Valley.

“I am confident that the Tories will certainly continue their dominance at local council level.”

These sentiments were echoed by long-serving councillor and community stalwart Joyce Holgate who said: “Nigel Evans has done a tremendous amount of good work for his constituents and may this should continue with a majority win for the Tory councillors on the borough council.”
